Master Class Nutrigenomics: Specific topic to be defined (10th Edition)

Nutrigenomics can be seen as the combination of molecular nutrition and genomics research that studies and quantifies the specific role of nutrition in the genotype-phenotype relationship. It is expected that it will enable an increased understanding of how nutrition influences metabolic pathways and homeostatic control, how this regulation is disturbed in the early phases of diet-related disease, and the extent to which individual sensitizing genotypes contribute to such diseases. Eventually, nutrigenomics will lead to evidence-based individualized dietary intervention strategies for restoring health and fitness and for preventing diet-related disease. Right now the field of nutrigenomics faces the challenge of establishing a strong basic research foundation while simultaneously surmounting a number of technological hurdles. A single genomics experiment can generate an enormous amount of complex data. Nutrigenomics scientists have to learn how to extract more efficiently useful biological information from these data and this in particular as a member of a larger multidisciplinary research team. In the 9th edition of International Nutrigenomics Master Class we will learn how to combine and interpret large amounts of different types of nutrigenomics data. Standardization, efficient datastorage and mining, applications of state-of-the-art technologies for comprehensive phenotyping, phenotype challenges and smart data integration and visualization strategies will be discussed. Furthermore, the translation of nutrigenomics data to a level that is relevant for a more comprehensive understanding of health and that has applicability for the food industry will be discussed.

Target group PhD students, postdocs working on Nutrigenomics projects and other interested scientists with a strong background in nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology or a comparable discipline.
