The outbreak of the coronavirus has significantly disrupted business-as-usual, with laboratories closed and most people working from home. For scientists, academic events are important opportunities to present their research, connect with peers and create new partnerships. However, in an effort to contain the virus, a number of events have cancelled or postponed their dates.

Events postponed till later this year:

• 14th European PhD Workshop on Food Engineering and Technology was set to be held on 13-14 May 2020, but now will be held 3-4 November 2020.
• 4th Food Structure and Functionality Forum Symposium to be held on 14-18 June 2020 has been postponed till 18-21 October 2020
• 4th International Conference on Global Food Security was initially planned for 16-20 June will now be held 20-23 September 2020

Events rescheduled for 2021:

• 4th Symposium on “Nutrition for the Ageing Brain: From Mechanisms to Sustainability”  was to be held 25-27 May 2020, and now will be held on 24-25 June 2021
• 6th International ISEKI-Food Conference, ISEKI - Food 2020 was planned for 7-8 July is postponed, their new dates are 23-25 June 2021
• 3rd Food Waste Recovery Workshop, a pre-event of the ISEKI conference, has been postponed and will be held next year on 22 June 2021.

Postponed events - new dates to be announced:

• Food Contamination and Traceability Summit planned for 26-28 May has been cancelled.
• IUFoST2020 was to be held 16-20 August in New Zealand, new dates are yet to be announced.

As scheduled
For now the 34^th EFFoST International Conference ‘Bridging high-tech, food-tech and health: Consumer-oriented innovations’  will still be held 10-12 November 2020, as scheduled. EFFoST 2020 will be hosted by Technion in Tel Aviv, Israel. We are aware that the virus outbreak will limit gatherings and international travel for the coming months. Therefore we are looking into a number of options that will allow food scientists and technologists from around Europe to still connect and share their work. We will keep you informed of the developments.
