The FAIRCHAIN project addresses the growing need for sustainability transformation of existing food systems by encouraging competitive intermediate food value chain (IFVC) alternatives.
The project develops technological, organisational, and social innovations that offer solutions to tackle some of the issues and challenges that must be addressed to strengthen the position of small and mid-sized actors to support the transition to IFVC.
This special session will have the following presentations:
Introduction to FAIRCHAIN project - Geneviève Gésan-Guiziou (INRAE)
This session will give an overview of the FAIRCHAIN project, defining the Intermediate Food Value Chain (IFVC) concept. It will present the innovations chosen for their contribution to establish IFVCs or to reduce a given challenge in IFVC.
Case studies and FAIRCHAIN innovations - Anne Verniquet (DSS), Geneviève Gésan-Guiziou (INRAE), Karin Ostergren (RISE), Imca Sampers (Ghent University), Andreas Papadakis (Synelixis), Simon Berner (FHJ)
In FAIRCHAIN, six case studies develop and demonstrate pre-selected technological, organisational, and social innovations in real conditions or conditions as close as possible to real ones. The six case studies were chosen to illustrate the selected innovations and support the farmers/ producers to scale up from short to IFVC, sustain their so-far weak position in the IFVC, and/or inspire large actors to shorten their long value chain.
Lessons learned from co-creation processes in the project - Bärbel Hüsing (ISI)
A multi-actor co-creation process was an integral part of each FAIRCHAIN case study during the four-year project. The key to a successful co-creation process is the engagement and integration of relevant stakeholders. This presentation will share different challenges encountered in the co-creation process and good practices on how to overcome them.
You can attend FAIRCHAIN’s final event on Thursday 14 November, from 8:30 to 10:00.
