Young EFFoST took part in the AGRI Youth Policy Exchange in Brussels, an important gathering of young leaders from across the EU working in farming, food, and rural development. Young EFFoST was represented at the event by Sophie Kendler, who also attended the EU AgriFood Days at the EU Commission.

The event took place in December 2024, and featured engaging discussions about the future of EU agriculture and food policy. A key highlight was the Youth Dialogue with Agriculture and Food Commissioner Christophe Hansen, where around 20 young representatives from different organizations shared their views on critical issues in the agri-food sector, as well as challenges facing young people in rural areas.

One immediate outcome was Young EFFoST and EFFoST’s contribution to a Youth Declaration, calling for greater youth representation in EU agricultural policymaking. Signed by multiple organizations and submitted to the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), this declaration pushes for young voices to have a stronger role in shaping policy decisions.

In addition, EFFoST has applied to join the European Board on Agriculture and Food. This move aims to boost EFFoST’s presence at the EU level and ensure that food processing and other key parts of the food system aren’t overlooked in policymaking. Too often, new policies focus mainly on agriculture and primary production—EFFoST wants to bridge that gap and promote a more holistic approach to food systems policy.
