Institute of Food Science & Technology, the leading qualifying body for food professionals in Europe, supports the ambitions to limit the impact of plastics to the environment. However, as in the food context, plastic is used to protect food products from damage and spoilage.
Therefore IFST has produced a document which highlights important technical facts to consider when choosing plastic packaging. This includes factors to be mindful of when using plastic packaging such as the overall supply chain, coatings and laminates, and biodegradables. The factsheet also covers functionality issues including protection, labelling and food contact.
