Every year food professionals from around the world attend the EFFoST International Conference for its excellent scientific programme. However, it is also a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends, discuss hot topics with experts, finally meet people you have been corresponding with in person, and make new contacts by just saying hello to a fellow delegate. These personal connections are important as they lay the foundation for collaborations and exchanging ideas in the future. That’s why EFFoST has organized a number of social events:
The welcome reception will be held on the exhibition floor of the conference center right after the last session of the first day. There will be drinks and hors d'oeuvres to allow you to catch up with friends and colleagues before you venture out into the city for dinner. Rotterdam has plenty of great restaurants to choose from, enjoy!
Tuesday 12 November 18:15-19:45
EFFoST Pub Quiz
At the same time, the annual EFFoST Pub Quiz will be held in the Mees Auditorium. Kees de Gooijer, with his notorious sense of humour, will present this Pub Quiz. This is not a challenge for the faint-hearted, this quiz is made by food scientists for food scientists. For example, do you know what the term is for the fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth? There is no possible way you can prepare for this and it goes without saying that the world wide web cannot be a member of your team. So grab a drink and join in with the fun!
Tuesday 12 November 18:30-19:00
The Conference dinner will take place in the elegant ballroom of the Wereldmuseum which is situated in the stately Shipping Quarter, one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods of Rotterdam. A delicious buffet will be served with food inspired from around the world. There will definitely be something appetizing for everyone. The Wereldmuseum is only a short 10-minute walk from the WTC convention centre, but we will also have busses for the transfer leaving at 18:45 from WTC. Read more.
Wednesday 7 November 18:45 – 22:00
It is definitely worthwhile going to the conference dinner venue a little earlier, so you can visit the exhibit that includes a temporary exposition on the history of Indonesia under colonialism. Especially for the culture and history buffs among you, the Wereldmuseum has extended their opening hours for EFFoST2019 delegates. Make sure to wear your name badge! Read more.
