The symposium “Power of Microbes in Industry and Environment 2019” will be held in Sveti Martin na Muri, Croatia from 15-18 May 2019. This symposium covers all important topics of applied microbiology and is already the sixth meeting in a row. The first meeting was held in Opatija in 2002 and followed by the symposia in Zadar in 2007, Malinska (island Krk) in 2010, Primošten in 2013 and Krk in 2016. Like the previous Power of Microbes meetings, it will be organized by the Croatian Microbiological Society and co-organized by several other European microbiological societies, to promote collaboration among microbiologists in Central Europe and broader.  This series has clear objective to strengthen the scientific connections among research groups of neighbouring countries.

The symposium consists of  five sessions:

I) Microbes - indispensable players on the winemaking team;

II) Microbes within their environment: (i) Coping with the changing environment; (ii) Role of microbes in sustaining ecosystems health;

III) Recruiting microbes in food and industrial processes;

IV) In pursuit of improving human health: Power of vaccines, probiotics and antibiotics;

V) Microbes observed with the omics glasses.

The meeting is supported by FEMS and ICGEB, who will award a number of grants to eligible young scientists.
